Quick answer

Chrome Hearts jewelry is stamped inside with the metal, such as 925 for sterling silver, and a year; most rings also carry the brand name on the edge, and some pieces have a © mark. Fakes are stamped too, so what matters is how the stamps are made: crisp, evenly spaced numbers, the right font and spelling, a year that fits the model, and engraving depth that varies like hand-finished work. Clothing, hats and glasses have their own tags and markings.

Stamps and tags are among the first things buyers check, and counterfeiters copy them too. This guide explains what each mark on Chrome Hearts means, how published fakes got them wrong, and why a mark only helps when it matches the whole piece.

925 and other metal marks

925 means sterling silver, 92.5 percent pure silver, and Chrome Hearts uses 925 silver; SNKRDUNK's authenticators confirm it with a specific gravity meter. 1stDibs says the inside of an authentic ring carries hallmarks for the material and a year, with numbers that should be crisp, clear and evenly spaced.

Fakes are stamped 925 too. On a fake CH Forever ring, Legit Check by Ch found the 925 lettered too thin and the dot beside it set too far away, and on a fake CH Forever 6mm spacer ring SNKRDUNK found the numbers spaced too closely and the engraving rougher. Gold pieces get the same attention: Japanese buyers warn that 22K pieces are faked heavily.

The year stamp

Genuine Chrome Hearts pieces carry a year with the metal mark, and it should fit the model. The CH Forever ring, for example, shows 2003 inside. SNKRDUNK's authenticators compare engraved numbers with data their team shares on genuine pieces, which vary by year and size.

A year that does not match the design, or numbers that look thin, crowded or uneven, are reasons to look closer.

Engraving depth and line thickness

Japanese resale specialists Nanboya, Uridoki and Kaitori Daikichi agree on one point: counterfeit engraving tends to be uniform, cut by machine or laser with the same depth and line thickness throughout, while genuine hand-finished engraving varies. Nanboya describes the CH cross as engraved deepest in the middle and shallower toward the edges.

Compare depth and line thickness with a genuine piece of the same model, under a loupe and in raking light.

Wash, barcode and neck tags on clothing and hats

On genuine hoodies, 1stDibs describes a wash tag with the Chrome Hearts logo vertically on the left and the materials usually listed in English, French, Mandarin, Korean and Japanese, in lettering of even thickness and spacing, plus a barcode tag where the CH logo is darker than the barcode. Hats have the same kind of fabric tag beside a vertical banner logo and a barcode tag printed in two ink colors.

Legit Check by Ch finds fake tags with lettering that is too thick, CH and numbers on the barcode tag printed too thin, and, on a fake T-shirt's neck tag, a barely visible or oddly placed ® symbol and a flower logo that is too bold.

Markings on glasses

Mia Burton says authentic Chrome Hearts frames are marked MADE IN JAPAN or FRAME MADE IN JAPAN, while replicas often say DESIGNED IN JAPAN, and that the temple should show the model name and size in clean, evenly spaced lettering. On many metal styles, 1stDibs adds, each nose pad carries a deep, detailed logo engraving that should look identical on both sides.

Invoices and receipts

According to SNKRDUNK, Chrome Hearts gave an invoice with each purchase until March 2022 and regular receipts after that. Its team checks the dates, the paper cut, the font and the spacing, and a vintage model sold with a 2020 invoice does not add up.

Genuine paperwork can travel with a fake, and Japanese buyers warn of counterfeits sold with a real guarantee. Paperwork supports the history of an item only when everything else matches.

Common questions

What readers ask about this topic

What does 925 mean on Chrome Hearts?

925 marks sterling silver, which is 92.5 percent pure silver. Chrome Hearts uses 925 silver, but fakes are stamped 925 too, so the stamp alone proves nothing.

Is a Chrome Hearts 925 stamp proof that a piece is real?

No. What matters is how the stamp is made: crisp, evenly spaced numbers and depth that match genuine examples of the same model, together with the year, the brand engraving and the rest of the piece.

Why is there a year on my Chrome Hearts ring?

Genuine pieces carry a year next to the metal mark, and it should fit the model: the CH Forever ring, for example, shows 2003 inside.

Where are the stamps on a Chrome Hearts ring?

The metal and year hallmarks are inside the band, and most rings also have the brand name engraved on the edge. Photograph each straight on and in sharp focus.

What do the tags on a real Chrome Hearts hoodie look like?

The wash tag has a vertical logo on the left and materials usually in five languages, in even lettering, and the barcode tag shows the CH logo darker than the barcode. Thick, heavy lettering is a common sign of a fake.
