Moncler Authentication

Learn how to check a Moncler jacket: exact model and version, shell and quilting, logo patch, labels, and what the code.moncler.com NFC check can confirm.

Direct answer

To tell if a Moncler item is real, identify the exact model and version first, such as a Maya, Maya 70, Montcla, down vest or Grenoble piece. Then compare the shell, quilting, loft, logo patch, zippers, interior labels and Monduck care label with same-version references. Moncler's authenticity label, with its code and, on newer items, an NFC tag checked at code.moncler.com, is useful supporting context, not proof on its own.

How to approach Moncler authentication

Exact model, version, and season

Separate the Maya and its matte, children's and Maya 70 versions, the Montcla, down vests, Grenoble ski pieces and Genius collaborations, then record gender, size, color and finish.

Shell, quilting, and loft

Compare the shell finish, quilt spacing and shape, stitching, loft, hood, collar, cuffs and pockets with references for the same version and season.

Logo patch, labels, and code

Review the logo patch, brand and size labels, the illustrated Monduck care label, zipper pulls, and the authenticity label's printed code and NFC tag where present.

Full views plus every label

Photograph the front, back, sides, hood, logo patch, zipper pull fronts and backs, lining, every label in place, the printed code, and any code.moncler.com result.

Photo guide

Photos to take of your Moncler clothing

The Vereev app's photo guide for clothing lists these 6 angles, and the numbers on the drawing match the list.

Illustrated photo guide for clothing with 6 numbered angles: full garment, material and detail, brand tag, care label, size or code tag, and packaging or extra labels
Vereev illustration of a generic item, not a specific brand's product.
  1. Full Appearance

Capture the full item clearly so a reviewer can see shape, proportions, color, and overall construction.

  2. Material & Detail

Take a close-up of fabric texture, stitching, print quality, embroidery, zipper, buttons, or other key details.

  3. Brand Tag

Show the main brand tag in sharp focus so typography, spacing, and stitching can be checked.

  4. Care Label

Photograph care labels and inner tags, because material text, wash symbols, and label quality are important references.

  5. Size / Code Tag

Include size tags, product codes, serial labels, or season information when available.

  6. Packaging or Extra Label

Add packaging, barcodes, receipts, spare tags, or any extra proof that supports the item history.

Follow the same angles in the app

The Vereev app shows a sample photo for each angle when you submit Moncler clothing. Sharp, same-item photos give the reviewer the evidence this page describes; packaging and documents help when you have them.

What to review on Moncler items

Which Moncler model, version, and season are you checking?

Moncler reuses model names across many versions. On moncler.com the Maya appears as a hooded short down jacket in nylon laqué and matte finishes, in children's versions, and as the Maya 70, which Moncler says seven designers reimagined for its 70th anniversary.

Identify the gender, size, color, shell finish, hood style, collaboration and season before comparing details. A feature that is normal on one version can look wrong next to another, and similar names such as Montcla, Montbeliard and Monteynard belong to different jackets.

How do reviewers compare the shell, quilting, and fill?

Moncler describes the Maya as a nylon laqué puffer, while its Grenoble line covers skiing and snowboarding through trekking and hiking with puffers, shell jackets and snow trousers. Shell fabric, weight and construction therefore vary widely across the catalog.

Reviewers compare the shell's sheen or matte finish, quilt spacing and shape, stitch density and straightness, loft, and how the hood, collar, cuffs and pockets are built, always against the same version.

Wear, washing, storage and repairs change loft and surfaces, so they should be disclosed rather than read as a verdict.

What to check on the logo patch, labels, and care label

Logo patches, brand and size labels, and zipper pulls are compared for shape, color, stitching, spacing and attachment against same-era references of the same product. Label and patch details can change over time, so a current jacket is not the right reference for an older one.

Moncler describes its animated care labels, in which the Monduck mascot shows the washing instructions, as a brand signature.

  • Logo patch: outline, colors, stitching or edge finish, and how it is attached
  • Brand and size labels: font, spacing, placement, and stitching
  • Care label: print sharpness and illustrations compared with the same era
  • Zipper pulls and snaps: shape, markings, and finish, fronts and backs
  • Authenticity label: a legible printed code and, on newer items, a responsive NFC tag

What does the code.moncler.com NFC check tell you?

Moncler's 2020 non-financial statement described a label with a unique alphanumeric code, a QR code and an NFC tag, verified at code.moncler.com, a site Moncler manages directly. Its 2024 annual report says Moncler began enhancing the system in 2021 and that it is now characterized by a unique alphanumeric code and an NFC tag.

The site asks you to scan the NFC tag to verify authenticity and, if the tag cannot be read, to log in or register and type the code manually. Moncler says a scan with a smartphone or tablet gives immediate feedback on the garment.

Treat the result as supporting context. A label is a separate component that can be removed and sewn into another garment, and a printed code can be copied, so the result only helps when the jacket it is attached to also checks out.

What if the jacket is older, secondhand, or has no NFC tag?

Press coverage in April 2016 reported that Moncler's chip-based labels, combining RFID with an NFC tag and a QR code, would start with the spring/summer 2016 collection, and Moncler began enhancing the system in 2021. A genuine older piece may carry an earlier label or no NFC tag at all, so a missing tag on an older item is not proof of a fake.

For vintage and early pieces, the review leans on era-appropriate labels, the care label, the logo patch, construction and provenance. Ask the seller for the purchase history and for photos of every label in place on the garment.

Where does Moncler sell, and how does it handle fakes?

Moncler's annual report describes a retail channel of directly operated stores, its online store and e-concessions, plus a wholesale channel of multi-brand stores, shop-in-shops in luxury department stores, airport locations and online luxury multi-brand retailers. Its store locator on moncler.com lists boutiques and department-store corners.

Moncler reports blocking websites and removing auction listings, search engine links, and social media posts, ads and accounts that promote fake Moncler products. Where necessary, it prepares expert reports for customers who unknowingly bought a counterfeit and want to recover the payment from their electronic payment provider.

A resale purchase sits outside these channels, so the garment and the seller's evidence have to carry the review.

When should you get an independent review?

Get an item-level review when the label check and the garment disagree, when the tag will not read or the item predates NFC, or when the piece is a collaboration or older version with few references.

Submit sharp photos of the whole garment and every label, the listing and receipt, and any code.moncler.com result. Vereev is independent of Moncler and reviews the evidence together, recording what the photos can and cannot show.

Model-specific checks

Most-searched Moncler models

Compare each piece with references for the same version, size, and period. These are the details a reviewer photographs and compares first.

Maya and Maya 70

The Maya is Moncler's hooded short down jacket with a nylon laqué shell, sold alongside matte, children's and Maya 70 versions, including designer reinterpretations for the brand's 70th anniversary. Its visibility and many versions make it a frequent subject of real-vs-fake searches and version mix-ups.

Check and photograph

  • Exact version: standard, matte, Maya 70, or a designer edition, plus gender and size
  • Full front and back in even light to show shell sheen and quilt layout
  • Hood, collar, and front zipper, including zipper pull fronts and backs
  • Logo patch, interior labels, Monduck care label, and the printed authenticity code
  • The code.moncler.com result for this label, shown with the label attached

Montcla

The Montcla is a men's hooded short down jacket listed on moncler.com. Moncler also sells similarly named short down jackets such as the Montbeliard and Monteynard, so the exact name and season matter before comparing details.

Check and photograph

  • Model name from the receipt or listing matched to Moncler's naming
  • Quilt pattern, hood, and collar shape against same-season Montcla references
  • Logo patch position and attachment
  • Interior labels, care label, and authenticity label code with its NFC result

Down vests (gilets)

Moncler describes its men's down vests as sleeveless styles ranging from quilted and hooded designs to classic down gilets, with names such as Tibb and Contrin. Vest models differ in quilting, trims and closures, so identify the exact name first.

Check and photograph

  • Exact vest name, season, gender, and size
  • Quilting layout, armhole binding, and hem finish
  • Front zipper or snaps, fronts and backs
  • Logo patch, interior labels, and authenticity label code

Moncler Grenoble

Moncler Grenoble is the brand's mountain line, which Moncler says spans skiing and snowboarding through trekking and hiking with puffers, shell jackets and snow trousers. Technical details vary by piece, so compare Grenoble items only with the same product and season.

Check and photograph

  • Exact Grenoble product name and season
  • Hood, cuffs, pockets, closures, and technical trims against same-product references
  • Logo patches and interior labels
  • Authenticity label code and NFC result

Warning signs

When Moncler items need a closer look

Each sign is a reason to ask more questions or get an item-level review. None is a verdict on its own.

  • The listing shows only close-ups of the logo patch or labels, with no full front, back, and interior views of the actual garment.
  • The model name, color, or finish in the listing does not match the jacket in the photos, or the item mixes details from different versions.
  • On an item that should date from the NFC era, the authenticity label is missing, cut, or looks resewn.
  • The seller shares a code or scan result but will not show the label attached to the garment being sold.
  • Quilting, stitching, or loft looks uneven against same-version references in ways that wear or cleaning does not explain.
  • The sale comes through a social media ad, direct message, or standalone website, channels Moncler reports policing for fake Moncler promotions.
  • The price is far below authenticated resale for the same model and condition, paired with pressure to pay quickly or off-platform.

Common questions

Moncler authentication FAQ

How can I tell if my Moncler jacket is real?

Identify the exact model and version, then compare the shell, quilting, logo patch, labels, and hardware with same-version references and check the authenticity label at code.moncler.com. No single detail settles it; the label result and the garment have to agree.

Does a Moncler NFC scan prove the jacket is authentic?

Not on its own. Moncler says the scan gives immediate feedback on the garment, but a label can be removed and sewn into another garment and a code can be copied, so the jacket itself must also match.

Do all Moncler jackets have an NFC tag?

No. Press coverage in 2016 reported that chip-based labels would start with the spring/summer 2016 collection, and Moncler says it began enhancing the system in 2021, so label versions differ and genuine older pieces may have no NFC tag.

What should I do if my Moncler NFC tag will not scan?

code.moncler.com says you can log in or register and type the code manually if the tag cannot be read. If that also fails, treat it as a reason for closer review rather than a verdict.

What is the Moncler Maya 70?

Moncler sells Maya 70 versions of the Maya jacket and, for its 70th anniversary, says seven designers reimagined the Maya 70. Designer and mainline versions differ, so compare each with references for the same edition.

What can I do if I already bought a fake Moncler?

Moncler says that, where necessary, it prepares expert reports for customers who unknowingly bought a counterfeit and want to recover the amount from their electronic payment provider. Keep the listing, messages, payment record, and photos, and contact Moncler's client service and your payment provider.
