Canada Goose Authentication
How to check a Canada Goose jacket: exact model and version, shell, fill and fur trim, the Arctic Program disc patch, labels, and what a hologram can show.
Direct answer
To tell if a Canada Goose item is real, identify the exact model and version first, such as an Expedition, Langford or Wyndham parka, a Chilliwack Bomber, or a Crofton or Freestyle Crew vest. Then compare the shell, loft, hood and any fur trim, closures, the Arctic Program disc patch and the interior labels with same-version references. A hologram label, which press reports described in 2012, is supporting context, not proof on its own.

How to approach Canada Goose authentication
Exact model, version, and year
Separate the Expedition, Langford and Wyndham parkas, the Chilliwack Bomber and its Aviator and fleece versions, and vests such as the Crofton and Freestyle Crew, then record any style number, the size, color and approximate year.
Shell, fill, hood, and fur
Compare the shell, loft, weight, stitching, hood, cuffs and closures with the same version, and check that any fur trim fits the jacket's production year.
Disc patch, labels, and hologram
Review the Arctic Program disc patch, the brand, size and care labels, and any hologram label, making sure each one fits the same model and era.
Full views plus every label
Photograph the front, back, sides, hood, disc patch, closures, lining, every interior label and any hologram in place, plus the receipt or listing.
Photo guide
Photos to take of your Canada Goose clothing
The Vereev app's photo guide for clothing lists these 6 angles, and the numbers on the drawing match the list.
Full Appearance
Capture the full item clearly so a reviewer can see shape, proportions, color, and overall construction.
Material & Detail
Take a close-up of fabric texture, stitching, print quality, embroidery, zipper, buttons, or other key details.
Brand Tag
Show the main brand tag in sharp focus so typography, spacing, and stitching can be checked.
Care Label
Photograph care labels and inner tags, because material text, wash symbols, and label quality are important references.
Size / Code Tag
Include size tags, product codes, serial labels, or season information when available.
Packaging or Extra Label
Add packaging, barcodes, receipts, spare tags, or any extra proof that supports the item history.
Follow the same angles in the app
The Vereev app shows a sample photo for each angle when you submit Canada Goose clothing. Sharp, same-item photos give the reviewer the evidence this page describes; packaging and documents help when you have them.

What to review on Canada Goose items
Which Canada Goose model, version, and year are you checking?
Canada Goose groups several established styles, including the Expedition, Langford and Wyndham parkas and the Chilliwack Bomber, under Legacy Style pages on its site. Some of these names cover more than one version: its listings include a Chilliwack Aviator Bomber, a Chilliwack Humanature Fleece Bomber and a Langford Parka Wool alongside the core styles, and the Crofton vest also appears in a black disc version.
Canada Goose's own product page addresses pair many style names with a number, and different versions carry different numbers, as the Langford Parka and the Langford Parka Wool do. Record the version, gender, size, color and approximate year before judging any detail, because a feature that is normal on one version can look wrong next to another.
- Model name and version, such as Chilliwack Bomber or Chilliwack Aviator Bomber
- Any style number on the labels, receipt, or listing, compared with official listings
- Gender, size, and color
- Approximate year of production, which matters for fur trim and labels
- Where and when the item was first bought, with any receipt
How do reviewers compare the shell, fill, and hood?
Canada Goose's 2017 IPO prospectus described its expertise in matching technical fabrics with blends of down for different seasons and uses, and its range includes parkas, bombers and vests, with fleece and wool versions of some styles. Reviewers compare shell fabric and finish, loft, weight, stitching, hood shape, cuffs, pockets and closures with the same version rather than with the brand in general.
Fill is hard to judge from photos, but it matters. In testimony to House of Commons and Senate committees in 2013 and 2014, a Canada Goose marketing executive said some counterfeit jackets the company had tested contained no trace of down, and described the fill as factory-floor debris covered in mildew and bacteria. Do not cut into a jacket to check; describe its loft and weight and compare them with references for the same model.
Wear, washing, storage and repairs change loft and surfaces, so record them as condition rather than reading them as a verdict.
What does fur trim tell you about a Canada Goose jacket's age?
In 2014 Senate committee testimony, a Canada Goose marketing executive said the company used coyote fur because it was a functional part of the jacket, breaking up the wind in front of the wearer's face. A fur ruff can therefore be original on an older genuine jacket.
In June 2021, Canada Goose announced that it would stop purchasing fur by the end of 2021 and stop manufacturing with fur by the end of 2022, according to news reports at the time. A fur trim on a piece presented as recent production is a reason to ask when it was made, not a verdict on its own.
A trim may also have been added, removed or repaired during a jacket's life. Photograph how the ruff attaches and describe its condition so a reviewer can weigh it with the rest of the evidence.
What to check on the disc patch and interior labels
Canada Goose lists its Arctic Program disc among its major trademarks and describes it as a color-inverse design of the North Pole and Arctic Ocean. Nunatsiaq News described the patch in 2012 as showing the North Pole with longitude and latitude lines meant to evoke a traditional Arctic map.
Reviewers compare the disc's colors, embroidery, map lines, lettering and position with official photos of the same model and version, since some styles are sold with a different disc, such as the black disc Crofton vest. They also check that the brand, size and care labels agree with each other, with the listing and with the claimed era.
Canada Goose's 2017 prospectus emphasized its commitment to manufacturing in Canada. Treat the country printed on a label as one detail to compare with authenticated listings of the same product and year, not as a rule for every item.
- Disc patch: colors, embroidery density, map lines, and lettering
- Disc position against official photos of the same version
- Brand, size, and care labels: print sharpness, spacing, and stitching
- Any style number printed on a label, matched to the model name
- Any hologram label, photographed in place on the garment
What can a Canada Goose hologram label tell you?
Press reports in 2012, including Nunatsiaq News and Postmedia coverage carried by Global News, described a hologram that Canada Goose developed and sewed into its jackets and accessories as an authenticity feature.
Treat a hologram as supporting context. A label is a separate component that can be removed and sewn into another garment, and security labels can be imitated, so it only helps when the jacket around it also checks out.
Press reports from 2012 describe the hologram as a feature Canada Goose had developed, so a genuine jacket made before then may not have one. For older pieces, a review leans on the disc patch, interior labels, construction and provenance.
Where does Canada Goose sell, and how does it handle fakes?
Canada Goose's fiscal 2020 annual report described a direct-to-consumer channel of e-commerce sites in several national markets and directly operated stores across North America, Europe and Asia, alongside wholesale partners. In 2014 Senate testimony, the company said it directs consumers to authorized retailers and talks about unauthorized ones.
Canada Goose also runs Canada Goose Generations, a resale platform it launched in 2023 for pre-owned Canada Goose pieces.
The company's filings say it devotes significant resources to anti-counterfeiting and pursues sellers of counterfeit merchandise through legal action or other measures, and in 2014 it told the Senate committee it had acted against hundreds of counterfeit websites in a few months. A resale purchase outside these channels has to rest on the item and the seller's evidence.
When should you get an independent review?
Get an item-level review when you cannot handle the jacket before paying, when the version, fur trim or labels do not fit the claimed year, when a hologram or interior label is missing or looks resewn, or when the piece is older and has few references.
Vereev is independent of Canada Goose and reviews the jacket, labels, construction and seller evidence together, recording what the photos can and cannot show. Its result is not a brand determination.

Model-specific checks
Most-searched Canada Goose models
Compare each piece with references for the same version, size, and period. These are the details a reviewer photographs and compares first.
Expedition Parka
Canada Goose presents the Expedition Parka as one of its Legacy Style collections, and it appears in real-vs-fake guides online. Pin down the version and approximate year first, since any original fur trim should date from before the brand's announced end of fur manufacturing in 2022.
Check and photograph
- Exact version, size, color, and approximate year of production
- Full front and back to show the shell, pockets, and overall shape
- Hood or collar and any fur ruff, including how it attaches
- Arctic Program disc patch, straight on and at an angle
- Every interior label and any hologram, photographed in place
Chilliwack Bomber
Canada Goose sells a family of Chilliwack jackets, including the Chilliwack Bomber, the Chilliwack Aviator Bomber and the Chilliwack Humanature Fleece Bomber, so the exact version matters before any detail is compared. Real-vs-fake guides online single out the Chilliwack as well.
Check and photograph
- Exact Chilliwack version from the labels, receipt, or listing
- Shell or fleece fabric and finish against same-version references
- Collar, cuffs, hem, and hood if the version has one
- Disc patch position and embroidery
- Interior labels and any hologram label in place
Langford and Wyndham parkas
Canada Goose lists both the Langford Parka and the Wyndham Parka as Legacy Style collections, and the Langford also comes in a wool version. Because the brand makes several parkas, match the model name and version to the jacket before comparing details.
Check and photograph
- Model name and version, including the wool Langford, matched to the listing
- Any style number on the labels, compared with official listings
- Full front and back, plus the hood or collar and any fur ruff
- Disc patch and interior labels, photographed in place
- Closures, cuffs, and pocket openings
Vests: Crofton and Freestyle Crew
Canada Goose's vests include the Crofton Down Vest, which also appears in a black disc version, and the Freestyle Crew Vest. Compare the disc, quilting and trims with official photos of the exact model and version.
Check and photograph
- Exact vest name and version, such as a black disc Crofton
- Quilting layout, armholes, and hem finish
- Front zipper and pocket openings
- Disc patch position and embroidery
- Interior labels and any hologram label in place
Warning signs
When Canada Goose items need a closer look
Each sign is a reason to ask more questions or get an item-level review. None is a verdict on its own.
- The listing shows only the disc patch or a close-up of a hologram, with no full front, back, hood, and interior views of the actual jacket.
- The model name, version, or style number in the listing does not match the jacket in the photos, or the jacket mixes details from different versions.
- The disc patch's colors, map lines, or embroidery differ from official photos of the same model and version in ways wear does not explain.
- A jacket presented as recent production has a fur ruff, even though Canada Goose announced it would stop manufacturing with fur by the end of 2022.
- The jacket looks flat or thin next to same-model references, a concern because Canada Goose has described counterfeits it tested that contained no down.
- The seller will not photograph the interior labels and any hologram in place, or a label looks cut, loose, or resewn.
- The sale runs through a standalone website, social media ad, or direct message rather than Canada Goose, an authorized retailer, or a platform with buyer protection.
- The price is far below authenticated resale for the same model and condition, paired with pressure to pay quickly or off-platform.

Canada Goose authentication FAQ
How can you tell if a Canada Goose jacket is real?
Identify the exact model and version, then compare the shell, loft, hood, closures, disc patch, and interior labels with same-version references. No single detail settles it; any hologram label and the jacket itself have to agree.
Does a Canada Goose hologram prove the jacket is real?
Not on its own. Press reports in 2012 described a hologram Canada Goose developed as an authenticity feature, but a label can be moved to another garment or imitated, so the jacket around it must also check out.
What if my Canada Goose jacket has no hologram?
Press reports from 2012 describe the hologram as a feature Canada Goose had developed, so a genuine jacket made before then may not have one. Treat a missing hologram as a reason for closer review rather than as a verdict.
Do Canada Goose jackets still have fur?
Canada Goose announced in June 2021 that it would stop purchasing fur by the end of 2021 and stop manufacturing with fur by the end of 2022. Genuine older jackets may have a coyote fur ruff, which the company described in 2014 as a functional part of the jacket.
Does Canada Goose sell pre-owned jackets?
Yes. Canada Goose runs Canada Goose Generations, its own resale platform for pre-owned pieces, launched in 2023. Items bought through other resale channels still need an item-level check.
Why do two genuine Canada Goose jackets of the same model look different?
Canada Goose sells several versions under one name, such as the Chilliwack Aviator Bomber and the Langford Parka Wool, and some styles come with a black disc. Production year, fur trim, wear, and repairs also change how a genuine jacket looks.
