Gucci's official Authenticity Tag uses NFC and is available only on selected products. Gucci instructs users to open the Gucci app, enter the Gucci Tag section, and place a compatible phone near the item. An ordinary QR label, interior serial reference, or generic NFC scan is not the same feature.
Online advice often collapses every Gucci code into one system. Separating the official NFC feature from ordinary labels prevents both false reassurance and false alarms.
What the official Gucci Authenticity Tag is
Gucci describes the Authenticity Tag as a pre-configured NFC feature that provides information about a selected product. The public instructions currently show examples for selected bags, silks and scarves, and travel items.
The service is not available on every Gucci product. Its absence on an older item or unsupported category does not prove that the item is counterfeit.
How Gucci says to scan the tag
Use a phone with an active NFC reader, download or open the Gucci app, tap the MY GUCCI area, and enter the Gucci Tag section. Follow the in-app placement instructions for the supported product.
NFC reading position differs by phone. Remove a thick phone case if it interferes, hold the phone steady, and avoid repeatedly bending or pressing the item while searching.
NFC, QR labels, and serial references are different
NFC communicates over a very short wireless distance. A QR code is a visible printed pattern read by a camera. A Gucci interior number reference is usually embossed or stamped and serves a different production or model function.
Some QR-style labels may be used for internal inventory or production purposes and may not open a consumer page. A QR code that does or does not scan is not, by itself, an authenticity test.
If the official tag is not working
First confirm that the exact item is supposed to support the service and that you are using the Gucci app's dedicated Gucci Tag section on an NFC-compatible phone. Follow Gucci's product-specific location instructions.
If a supported item's tag still does not respond, contact Gucci directly. Do not rely on third-party apps that claim to expose or rewrite hidden product data, and do not cut into the item to find a tag.
What the tag means for a broader review
For a supported product, the official Gucci experience is a valuable brand-controlled signal. A full secondhand purchase review should still confirm that the tag belongs to the item being sold and that the item's model, construction, materials, hardware, markings, condition, and provenance are coherent.
