Prada Authenticity Card and NFC Tag Explained
Where the NFC tag sits on Prada bags, shoes and clothing, how to get the Digital Certificate of Ownership, what the authenticity card shows, and the limits.

Quick answer
Prada says it guarantees product authenticity through the Aura Blockchain Consortium. Its products carry an NFC tag, in most cases hidden inside, and after purchase the owner can request a Digital Certificate of Ownership by tapping the tag with a compatible smartphone. Prada bags have also come with an authenticity card in a black envelope. Cards can be copied and tags can be switched off, so each is supporting evidence that must agree with the item.
Prada buyers search for two things: the authenticity card that sellers have long offered as proof, and the NFC tag that Prada now describes on its own site. This guide explains what Prada says the tag and its Digital Certificate of Ownership do, where the tag sits, what a card can and cannot show, and how both fit a complete review.
What Prada says about authenticity
Prada's authenticity FAQ says it guarantees product authenticity through the Aura Blockchain Consortium. Prada Group announced in April 2021 that it had created the consortium with LVMH and Cartier, part of Richemont, to give consumers direct access to product history and proof of authenticity, with a unique certificate for the owner.
On the product, the link is an NFC tag. Prada says the tag can exchange information with a compatible smartphone held nearby, and that no personal data is stored in its tags.
Where the NFC tag is on Prada products
Prada says that in most cases the tag is not visible, because it is integrated inside the product. Its FAQ lists where to look by category:
- Leather goods: near the external logo, the buckle, the internal Made in label, or on a dedicated external card
- Footwear: under the sole of the left shoe, or on a dedicated external card
- Ready-to-wear: sewn onto the internal label of the garment, or on a dedicated external card
- Jewelry and home: inside a dedicated card
How the Digital Certificate of Ownership works
Prada says that after purchase you can request the Digital Certificate of Ownership by tapping the NFC tag integrated in the product, and that the certificate gives access to exclusive services and benefits for a selection of Prada products. Ownership is transferred by following the instructions that appear when you tap the tag.
Prada also says that if a product is returned, it reacquires ownership of the returned item. In a private sale, agree before payment how and when the certificate will be transferred.
- Turn on NFC reading if your phone requires it, and hold the phone still over the area Prada describes for that product.
- Check that the page that opens is Prada's own service before you enter any details.
- Record one continuous video that shows the tag area on the item and then the result.
If the tag does not respond
Prada says its NFC tag can be irreversibly deactivated at any time. A tag that does not respond may have been switched off, may sit where your phone does not reach it, or may not exist on a piece made before Prada added tags.
None of these is proof of a fake on its own. Treat a silent tag the way you would treat a missing card: as a reason to look harder at the item, not as a verdict.
The Prada authenticity card
1stDibs, the luxury marketplace, wrote in 2022 that every Prada bag comes with a certificate of authenticity in a black envelope embossed with the Prada name. In the resale market this is usually called the Prada authenticity card.
A card is a separate document. It can be printed by counterfeiters or moved from a genuine bag to another one, and it only helps when its details clearly match the item it came with. A missing card on a used bag is common and does not prove a fake, while a card offered as the main proof of a bag deserves questions.
What a tag or card can and cannot prove
A certificate reached through the tag inside the product is the clearest signal Prada offers, because Prada says it guarantees authenticity through this system. Compare the product it describes with the model, color and size in front of you.
Neither a tag nor a card replaces the item itself. Compare the nylon or leather, construction, triangle logo and lettering, hardware, interior labels and the seller's history. Vereev is independent of Prada, and its review is not a Prada certification.
Common questions
What readers ask about this topic
Where is the NFC tag on a Prada bag?
Prada says that on leather goods it is near the external logo, the buckle, the internal Made in label, or on a dedicated external card. In most cases the tag is not visible.
How do I check a Prada item with NFC?
Prada says that after purchase you can request a Digital Certificate of Ownership by tapping the NFC tag with a compatible smartphone. Compare the product the certificate shows with the item itself.
Does every Prada bag have an authenticity card?
1stDibs wrote in 2022 that every Prada bag comes with a certificate of authenticity in a black envelope. Cards are often separated from used bags, so a missing card is not proof of a fake, and a card alone proves nothing.
Why does my Prada NFC tag not work?
Prada says the tag can be irreversibly deactivated. It may also sit where your phone does not reach it, and a piece made before Prada added tags will not have one.
Can a Prada Digital Certificate of Ownership be transferred?
Yes. Prada says to follow the transfer instructions that appear when you tap the NFC tag embedded in the product.
