Loewe Authentication
How to tell if a Loewe bag is real: identify the exact Puzzle, Flamenco, Hammock, Amazona or Basket version, then compare construction, embossing and photos.
Direct answer
To tell if a Loewe bag is real, first pin down the exact model and version, such as a classic Puzzle, Puzzle Edge, Puzzle Fold, Flamenco, Hammock, Amazona or palm-leaf Basket. Then compare how it is built with same-version references: panel layout and seams, lining, closures, the embossed Anagram or LOEWE lettering, and hardware. We found no public Loewe serial lookup, NFC tag or authenticity card program, so codes, cards and packaging are supporting context, not proof.

How to approach Loewe authentication
Exact model and version
Separate the classic Puzzle, Puzzle Edge, Featherlight Puzzle and Puzzle Fold, and likewise each Flamenco, Hammock, Amazona and Basket version and size, before comparing any detail.
How the bag is built
Compare panel layout and seam paths, gathered or folding structure, lining, pockets and closures with what Loewe lists for that exact version.
Embossing, labels and hardware
Check the embossed Anagram or LOEWE lettering, interior labels, padlock, zipper pulls and metal feet for depth, spacing and placement that fit the claimed version and period.
Photos to take
Shoot the front, back, base, both sides and top, the open interior with lining and pockets, every embossing and label straight on, hardware front and back, strap ends, and any wear or repairs.

What to review on Loewe items
Which Loewe bag do you have, exactly?
Loewe makes its signature shapes in several versions, sizes and leathers, and the versions are not built the same way. The Puzzle alone comes in large, medium, small and mini sizes, in variants such as the Puzzle Edge and Featherlight Puzzle, and as the fold-flat Puzzle Fold tote.
Name the model, version, size, material and approximate period before comparing anything. Reference photos of a different version can make a genuine bag look wrong, or a copy look right.
- Puzzle: classic Puzzle, Puzzle Edge, Featherlight Puzzle and Puzzle Fold tote
- Flamenco: clutches from mini to XL, plus purse, Pleats and Coil versions
- Hammock: Compact Hammock, Hammock Flip and Mini Hammock hobo
- Amazona: Amazona 180 and numbered versions such as the Amazona 23 and 28
- Basket: the palm-leaf Basket and the iraca palm Anagram basket
How are Loewe's signature bags built?
Loewe describes the Puzzle as a cuboid bag whose geometric lines come from precise cutting, and museum and resale sources describe it as many individually cut leather pieces stitched together. Loewe says the Puzzle Edge differs from the classic build, with overlapped panels and single stitch lines, and that the Puzzle Fold is designed to fold completely flat.
Other shapes follow their own logic. The Flamenco has a gathered top cinched by drawstrings that end in coiled knots, the Hammock has flexible sides that fold in and out, the Amazona carries a signature padlock, and the Basket pairs a handwoven body with calfskin handles.
Reviewers compare the panel map, seam paths and how the structure behaves against the same size and version. Published piece counts for the Puzzle differ between sources, so a layout comparison is more useful than counting pieces.
What should the Anagram, embossing and labels look like?
Loewe's own listings name the branding each version carries: an embossed Anagram on the classic Puzzle and Hammock, gold or silver embossed LOEWE lettering on the Flamenco clutch, an embossed Anagram calfskin patch on the palm-leaf Basket, and an embroidered calfskin Anagram on the Anagram basket. Reviewers compare depth, spacing, alignment and placement with the same version.
Branding also changes over time. The four-L Anagram comes from a 1970 design by Spanish artist Vicente Vela and has been redrawn since, and some recent pieces carry a double-L mark and redrawn lettering, so compare a bag with references from its own period.
We found no official Loewe explanation of interior code or label formats. Treat interior codes and labels as supporting details that must agree with the rest of the bag.
Is variation in leather or palm weave a warning sign?
Not by itself. Loewe's care guide says variations in tone, marks and grain are natural features of its leather, suede and exotic products, and its basket listings note that sizes may differ slightly because each piece is handmade.
Loewe says its palm-leaf Basket is made in Spain from leaves handwoven by artisans in Morocco, and its Anagram basket from iraca palm leaves handwoven by artisans in Colombia. Weave, color and shape can vary between genuine pieces, and wear, cleaning or restoration changes surfaces further.
Reviewers look for variation that stays within what the version allows, and for construction choices that do not fit it, such as a lining in a basket version Loewe lists as unlined.
Does Loewe have a serial number check, NFC tag or authenticity card?
We found no public Loewe serial-number lookup, NFC or QR authenticity feature, or authenticity card program on loewe.com when this guide was researched. Interior codes, cards, dust bags, boxes and receipts can be copied or moved between items, so they only help when they agree with the exact bag.
Loewe's own channels are its stores, listed in the store locator on loewe.com, and the website itself, whose terms say online orders are for personal use and not for resale. Its care guide points owners to Loewe stores for after-sales service, and we found no statement that Loewe verifies items bought elsewhere.
When should you get a Loewe bag reviewed before buying?
Ask for an item-level review when the version is hard to pin down, when photos skip the interior or embossing, when the bag has been restored, or when the price or seller story does not fit. A useful review compares the whole bag, not a single tag or code.
Vereev is independent of Loewe. A Vereev review weighs model identity, construction, materials, markings, hardware and condition together, notes what the photos cannot show, and records the outcome in a digital certificate.

Model-specific checks
Most-searched Loewe models
Compare each piece with references for the same version, size, and period. These are the details a reviewer photographs and compares first.
Puzzle and Puzzle Fold
The cuboid Puzzle was Jonathan Anderson's first bag for Loewe and is built from precisely cut geometric leather pieces, while the Puzzle Edge and fold-flat Puzzle Fold tote are built differently. Because the look depends on the panel pattern, the exact version and size decide what a correct layout looks like.
Check and photograph
- Confirm the version (classic, Edge, Featherlight or Fold) and size before comparing the panel layout.
- Photograph each face straight on so panel shapes and seam paths can be matched to a same-version reference.
- Show the lining: Loewe lists herringbone cotton canvas for the classic Puzzle and Puzzle Edge, and suede for the shiny calfskin Puzzle Fold tote.
- Capture the embossed Anagram or LOEWE lettering, zipper pull, strap attachments and, on the classic Puzzle, the metal feet.
- For a Puzzle Fold, show it both open and folded flat.
Flamenco
The Flamenco is a soft, unstructured bag with a gathered top cinched by knotted drawstrings, sold as clutches in several sizes and as purse, Pleats and Coil versions. Its soft shape changes with use, so the knots, gathering and interior tell a reviewer more than the silhouette alone.
Check and photograph
- Identify the version and size, from a mini to an XL clutch or a purse version, before comparing.
- Photograph the drawstring knots, the gathered top from above, and the bag both cinched and open.
- Show the interior: Loewe lists a magnetic closure, one internal zipped pocket and herringbone cotton canvas lining for the nappa calfskin Large Flamenco clutch.
- Capture the embossed LOEWE lettering, strap ends and strap attachments close up.
Hammock
The Hammock's flexible sides fold in and out to change its silhouette, and Loewe makes it as the Compact Hammock, Hammock Flip and Mini Hammock hobo, among others. Photos taken in different configurations are easy to misread as construction differences.
Check and photograph
- Name the version and size, then photograph the bag in the same configuration as your reference.
- Show both side panels folded in and folded out, plus the base and top edges.
- Open the bag to show the closure and pockets; Loewe lists an internal hook closure, one external zip pocket and two internal slip pockets on the Compact Hammock.
- Capture the embossed Anagram, strap attachments and edge finishing close up.
Basket and Anagram basket
Loewe's palm-leaf Basket pairs a handwoven body with calfskin top handles and an embossed Anagram patch, and the iraca palm Anagram basket adds tubular calfskin straps and an embroidered Anagram. Loewe notes that handmade baskets can differ slightly in size, so weave irregularity alone is not a warning sign.
Check and photograph
- Confirm which basket and size you have, including whether it is palm leaf or iraca palm.
- Photograph the weave from the base up, the rim, and every point where handles or straps join the body.
- Capture the calfskin Anagram patch or embroidered Anagram straight on and at an angle.
- Show the inside: Loewe lists the Large Basket bag as unlined and the Anagram basket with a calfskin tie closure.
Warning signs
When Loewe items need a closer look
Each sign is a reason to ask more questions or get an item-level review. None is a verdict on its own.
- The seller names one Puzzle, Flamenco or Hammock version, but the panel layout, closure or lining in the photos matches a different version.
- Embossed lettering or Anagram detail looks shallow, blurred, uneven or misplaced compared with a same-version reference from the same period.
- Seams, panel edges or basket joins wander, gap or pucker in ways that same-version references do not show.
- The listing relies on stock images, cropped photos or a single angle, and the seller will not show the interior, labels and hardware.
- The seller presents a Loewe serial check, NFC scan or authenticity certificate as proof, and you cannot find that program described on loewe.com.
- The price is far below comparable secondhand sales for the same version and condition, especially with pressure to pay quickly or off-platform.
- A receipt, card or dust bag is offered in place of item photos, or its model, color or date does not match the bag.

Loewe authentication FAQ
How can you tell if a Loewe bag is real?
Identify the exact model, version and size, then compare construction, lining, closures, embossing and hardware with same-version references. No single detail settles it, and wear or restoration should be disclosed.
Can you check a Loewe serial number?
We found no public Loewe serial-number lookup or published code format. An interior code can support a review when it fits the rest of the bag, but codes can be copied, so they are never proof on their own.
Does Loewe authenticate bags or issue authenticity cards?
We found no Loewe authentication service, authenticity card program or NFC tag described on loewe.com. Loewe's care guide points owners to its stores for after-sales service, and we found no statement that stores verify items bought elsewhere.
Are Loewe bags made in Spain?
Loewe states that its palm-leaf and iraca palm baskets are made in Spain, and the Victoria and Albert Museum records a Puzzle bag made in Madrid. Check the origin wording on the item against a same-version reference rather than assuming one country for every product.
Is uneven weaving on a Loewe basket bag a sign it is fake?
Not on its own. Loewe says its baskets are handwoven and that sizes may differ slightly, so reviewers focus on whether the weave, handles, patch and finishing fit the specific version.
Why does the Loewe logo on my bag look different from older bags?
The four-L Anagram has been redrawn over the years, and some recent pieces carry a double-L mark and new lettering. Compare branding with references from the same period and version.
