Buying a genuine Dyson
Dyson Authorized Retailers and Fake Shops: Where to Buy a Genuine Dyson
Dyson's authorized sellers in the US, China, Japan and more, how fake Dyson shops and ads work, and what Amazon, used and imported units mean for warranty.

Quick answer
Buy from Dyson, on its website or in a Dyson Demo store, or from an authorized retail partner. Dyson says this is one way to be completely sure you avoid a fake. Its US list of authorized sellers includes Amazon.com itself, Best Buy, Target, Costco, Sephora and Ulta, and Dyson says the list may not be complete. Dyson says fake Dyson shops are typically promoted through social media ads.
This guide covers the step before you pay, and what to do if you already have. It lists the channels Dyson names in the markets covered here, how fake Dyson shops and ads work, 8 checks on a seller or listing, and what Amazon, used, imported and refurbished units mean for warranty. Each rule names its market, and the sources give the date of each page, because Dyson's terms differ by country and change over time.
Where does Dyson say to buy a genuine Dyson?
Dyson says one way to be completely sure you have not bought a counterfeit is to buy directly from Dyson, on its website or in a Dyson Demo store, or from an authorized retail partner. It adds that buying direct brings its warranty, called a guarantee in Great Britain, free scheduled delivery and dedicated customer support. This wording is on Dyson's Philippines and Indonesia pages, read on 2 Nov 2026.
Dyson Japan says a product bought from its official site, Dyson direct stores or authorized sellers is a genuine Dyson product.
Dyson UK's scam page says to shop only direct from Dyson.co.uk and authorized third-party retailers.
Authorized Dyson sellers by country
Dyson names its channels differently in each market. The table gives what each Dyson page says, and the sources list when each page was read. Lists change, so check the live page before you rely on a store name.
| Market | Channels Dyson names | Warranty condition |
|---|---|---|
| United States | dyson.com and its Authorized Retailers and Sellers List, which includes Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Costco, Sephora and Ulta among others. Dyson says the list may not be complete. | Only machines bought from Dyson or a US authorized seller, unless the law says otherwise. Not transferable. |
| Amazon.com | Only Amazon.com itself, Allied Hand Dryers and Berl's Commercial Supply. | Other third-party sellers on Amazon.com are not authorized under these terms. |
| Mainland China | Dyson.cn, its WeChat mini program and WeChat Shop, and named stores on Tmall, JD, Douyin and Xiaohongshu, plus two refurbished stores (October 2026 list). | Free warranty only for machines bought and used in mainland China through direct or authorized channels. Not for machines bought abroad or in Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan, 代购 personal-shopper purchases, or overseas versions. |
| Japan | The official site, Dyson direct stores and authorized sellers. Its official social media ads link only to the official site and its official Yahoo! Shopping and Rakuten Ichiba stores. | Warranty terms not covered here. Dyson Japan gives no refund or exchange for a counterfeit. |
| Philippines | WPI, named as the exclusive Dyson distributor and retailer. | 2 years on main categories, for local machines bought directly from WPI. |
| Indonesia | Dyson's authorized retailer. | 2 years on cordless vacuums, hair dryers, hair stylers, purifiers and fans, for local machines from Dyson's authorized retailer. |
| Singapore | Authorized retailers. | Local machines bought from an authorized retailer, with a receipt. The page we read may be dated. |
| United Kingdom | Dyson.co.uk and authorized third-party retailers. We found no published list. | The guarantee transfers with the original proof of purchase from a recognized retailer and evidence that the machine worked at the change of owner. No US-style authorized-seller condition on the pages we read. |
| Other countries, including the EU | Not read for this guide. Dyson's general advice is to buy from Dyson directly or from an authorized retail partner. | Not covered here. Check the guarantee terms on your country's Dyson site. |
- Mainland China, October 2026 list: on Tmall, dyson戴森官方旗舰店 and dyson戴森专卖店. On JD, dyson戴森官方旗舰店, 戴森京东自营旗舰店 and 戴森(DYSON)海外京东自营旗舰店. On Douyin, dyson戴森官方旗舰店 and two enterprise stores (企业店). On Xiaohongshu, Dyson戴森旗舰店. Also WeChat Shop (Dyson戴森), the Dyson WeChat mini program, Dyson.cn, and other online dealers that Dyson confirms.
- Dyson China says these store pages show its badges, and it lists offline stores through a QR code on its policy page.
- The China list changed between the February and June 2026 versions and the October version. A purchase on Tmall or JD is not automatically authorized. Signal News reported that Dyson China's customer service confirmed the serial of a buyer's V12 vacuum, then refused free repair because the store was authorized for some Dyson products only, not that model. A mediator and a lawyer quoted in the report disputed the refusal. For a dispute like this in mainland China, ask your local market regulator or a lawyer.
- The US list may not be complete, and Dyson asks people to call the Dyson Helpline if unsure. If a US seller is not on the list, ask Dyson before you assume either way.
How fake Dyson websites and ads work
Dyson says fake websites are typically promoted through social media adverts, such as on Instagram or Facebook. They copy official Dyson images, videos and wording, offer a discount on Dyson's prices, and often give no contact details for the owner, or incomplete ones.
Dyson says its official social media ads take you to Dyson.com or to the site of an authorized retail partner. Dyson Japan says its official social media ads link only to the Dyson official site, its official Yahoo! Shopping store or its official Rakuten Ichiba store. So treat an ad that lands anywhere else as not an official Dyson ad.
Dyson Japan says fake sites posing as its official site sell Dyson-branded goods at unusually low prices, and that an order may bring a counterfeit, a different product, or nothing at all. Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency warned on 21 Oct 2020, as ScanNetSecurity reported, that fake shops used the name dyson, copied its images and text, and showed Dyson's company details. Shoppers arrived through search ads and social media ad messages, paid by card and received nothing. Many were sent unordered items from abroad, such as scarves.
Dyson UK says genuine Dyson emails come from @dyson.com, and warns of lookalikes such as @dys0n.com, with a zero in place of the letter o. It also says to watch for spelling mistakes, poor images and suspicious links on fake sites.
8 checks before you pay
Use these checks on any seller, site or listing. Each comes from Dyson or a named authority. None is proof on its own.
If something looks wrong, Dyson's March 2026 release says to pause and compare the product, the seller and the price with Dyson's official channels.
- 1. Check the web address. Dyson says checking that a web address is Dyson.com, a local Dyson site or an authorized retail partner is a good starting point.
- 2. Check where an ad lands. Dyson says its official ads go to Dyson or an authorized partner.
- 3. Make sure you can identify the seller and contact them at their place of business, as Dyson's March 2026 release advises. Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency added in 2020 that the name on the payee account should match the business.
- 4. Judge the price with care. Dyson says a deal that seems too good to be true usually is, but also that some discounts are not low enough to raise suspicion. Shanghai Jinshan police said the fakes in one case were sold at RMB 2,400 a unit, and Beijing News, reporting the case on 30 Jan 2026, said the genuine model sold for about RMB 2,600 on e-commerce platforms. No percentage is a safe rule.
- 5. Ask for photos of the actual item. Dyson says counterfeit dealers avoid showing the item they sell and hide behind official Dyson images.
- 6. Treat promises as claims. Dyson says sellers of fakes claim items are original, authentic or genuine, often promise they can be registered online or have Dyson warranty, and sometimes offer fake proof of purchase. Dyson's verdict on such promises: "These are not a guarantee of authenticity."
- 7. Read seller and listing reviews, and be careful with sellers who have little sales history, as Dyson's 2026 release advises.
- 8. Be wary of sales completed in private messages, through unofficial links or with unusual payment methods, as Dyson's 2026 release advises. Dyson UK says never to share card details or one-time passwords.
Buying a Dyson on Amazon or another marketplace
Dyson says it sells genuine products on some online marketplaces, and that this varies by country. Where Dyson is not the seller, it says a buyer has little chance to judge whether the product is genuine, and that getting money back after buying a counterfeit may be difficult. Dyson asks such buyers to contact Customer Care, and says it will do what it can to help.
In the US, Dyson's warranty names only Amazon.com, Allied Hand Dryers and Berl's Commercial Supply as its authorized sellers on Amazon.com. It reserves the right to reject warranty claims for machines from unauthorized sellers, including unauthorized internet sites. So under these terms, a Dyson sold by Amazon.com itself, Allied Hand Dryers or Berl's Commercial Supply comes from an authorized seller, and one from any other third-party seller on Amazon.com does not. That alone does not make the item fake.
Regulator records show fakes and unsafe parts on marketplaces. The counterfeit Airwrap in OPSS report 2112-0563 came from an eBay listing, which eBay removed, and the unsafe charger in report 2407-0169 was sold on eBay. Ipswich.co.uk reported in December 2024 that many goods Suffolk Trading Standards seized at Felixstowe that year were bound for third-party sellers on online marketplaces.
Dyson says it monitors online marketplaces and works with major marketplaces to stop fake listings going live. Which? reported in September 2025 that the suspect items it bought from third-party sellers on online marketplaces all had warning signs: they claimed to be new and unused and sold under the market rate, and several had reviews questioning whether they were genuine. At first glance, almost all looked identical to the genuine items.
Buying a used Dyson
Before you pay, ask the seller for the items in the list below, and ask where the machine was bought. Our serial number guide shows where the serial is on each model.
Check what happens to the warranty. In the UK, Dyson's guarantee transfers with the machine if the original proof of purchase from a recognized retailer is supplied, with evidence of the change of owner showing the machine worked at handover. In the US, the warranty covers only the original end-user purchaser and is not transferable. In mainland China, Red Star News reports that Dyson China's customer service said gifted machines whose channel cannot be checked may need paid repair.
A receipt alone proves nothing. Dyson says counterfeits copy its warranty cards, and that some sellers offer fake proof of purchase. If you can, see the machine working before you pay: the UK transfer rule needs evidence that it worked at handover.
- A sharp photo of the serial label, close enough to read every character. On a Supersonic or Airwrap, it is on the cord near the plug.
- A photo of the serial printed on the box, so you can check that it matches the serial label.
- The original receipt or order confirmation, showing the shop and the date, so you can check the shop against the channels above.
- Photos of the plug, the attachments and the case, taken by the seller.
- If you meet in person, the machine switched on and working.
- Warning signs in the reply: the seller sends only official Dyson images, will not photograph the actual item, or wants to move the sale to private messages, an outside link or an unusual payment method. Dyson warns about each of these.
Imported, international and parallel-import Dysons
An import can be genuine. The UK Intellectual Property Office says genuine goods first put on the market in the European Economic Area (EEA) by, or with the consent of, the rights holder can usually be imported into the UK without the brand's permission. That guidance, updated on 15 May 2025, does not deal with goods first sold outside the EEA.
But an import may not work, or be covered, where you live. A Dyson staff answer on the Dyson Community forum, from 2024, says the Airwrap, Supersonic and Airstrait are built for the voltage of the country of purchase, and that using them on another voltage could cause permanent damage. It advises against adapters and converters, and says the guarantee is valid in the country of purchase. At that date it named the Corrale as the only Dyson hair tool rated for universal voltage.
That changed in 2026. Dyson launched the Supersonic Travel with universal voltage, in select markets from 20 Apr 2026. Dyson Australia says it adapts to voltages from 100 to 240V, that a travel plug adapter may still be needed, and recommends an adapter rated to 1300W. It says the Travel is currently not compatible with Supersonic r attachments.
Warranty abroad depends on the market. In the US, Dyson covers universal-voltage machines bought from Dyson or a US authorized seller for non-commercial use abroad, with a suitable plug adapter or converter, unless they are damaged by a wrong connection or an unsuitable adapter. Service may be available only in the US, and the owner pays shipping and duty costs. As worded on Dyson's UK site, a machine sold outside the EU is covered only in the country where it was sold. A machine sold in the EU is covered in that country, or in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain or the UK if the same model is sold there at the same voltage. In mainland China, overseas versions sold by cross-border stores get after-sales service from that store, and Dyson China can do only limited repairs on them.
Sellers of fakes also use the word import. A Shanghai court found in 2020 that fake dryers were sold as European, American and Australian versions, as the National Law Review reported. CGTN reported in 2019 that fakes were labelled as European versions or shopping-agent purchases, and ZOL, a Chinese tech site, found fakes sold as foreign-trade versions that year. According to a January 2023 report by Insight, Dyson Korea said fakes sold as parallel imports used copied registration numbers.
So judge the item, not the label on the listing. A foreign plug can mean a genuine import. Our real vs fake guide shows what to check on the item itself.
Refurbished from Dyson: why the box may not be the original
Dyson sells refurbished machines itself, and they may not arrive in their original retail box. Dyson Australia says its certified refurbished machines were sold by Dyson and returned, then cleaned, tested and fitted with genuine Dyson parts where needed. They carry a one-year guarantee that includes parts and labor, and any flaws are cosmetic only. All accessories are included, but Dyson says it cannot always repack the machines in their original packaging, so they come in a brand-new recyclable box.
Dyson UK says its refurbished machines are fully serviced through what it calls its 70 check system. Its February 2026 page gives a 1-year guarantee on refurbished cordless vacuums, hair care and air treatment, and 2 years on upright and cylinder vacuums. It allows a 35-day change-of-mind return on vacuums, hair care and lighting, and 14 days on purifiers, fans, heaters, cosmetic products and cleaning solutions. These machines also ship in a brand-new recyclable box.
Dyson's US Limited Warranty, last updated on 16 Dec 2025, gives refurbished machines 1 year for hair dryers, stylers and straighteners, and 6 months for cordless vacuums, fans and heaters, purifiers and humidifiers, and audio. The Dyson Outlet on dyson.com uses the same 70 check wording. An archive copy from October 2026 listed a refurbished Airwrap i.d. Straight+Wavy at $324.99, against a shown earlier price of $424.99. Prices and stock change.
In mainland China, Dyson's refurbished stores are dyson戴森翻新直营官方店 on Taobao and Dyson戴森官翻直营旗舰店 on JD. So a new box that is not the original does not mean a fake. It does mean you should know where a refurbished unit came from.
Already paid, or the parcel has arrived?
If nothing arrived or a different item came, ask your card company or payment provider for a refund. Dyson Japan gives this advice for counterfeits: seek a refund from the seller, the card company or the payment provider. In December 2023, Border Force told UK consumers who think they bought a counterfeit to contact Action Fraud. Ipswich.co.uk reported in December 2024 that people who spot dangerous goods can call the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 0808 223 1133.
If an item arrived, check it with our real vs fake guide and our serial number guide. Use the seller's or the marketplace's returns and buyer protection, and check the time limit. Keep the listing, the messages, the payment record and photos of the item.
Dyson will not service or refund a counterfeit. Its dyson.com and Philippines pages say it may help buyers of counterfeits get their money back in some circumstances, but this is not promised. Dyson asks marketplace buyers to contact Customer Care.
For an independent opinion on the item, use the Vereev app. Search for Dyson, or type the brand name, Dyson, if your version of the app does not list it yet, and follow the guided photo checklist. The app shows the cost before you confirm. AI assists and human experts decide, and the tokens are refunded if the photos cannot settle it.
A photo review cannot test whether a device is electrically safe. If you have any doubt about its safety, stop using it and ask Dyson or an authorized service center.
No seller list, shop check or receipt proves that the item you received is genuine.
Common questions
What readers ask about this topic
Is a Dyson bought on Amazon genuine?
In the US, Dyson names Amazon.com itself, Allied Hand Dryers and Berl's Commercial Supply as its only authorized sellers on Amazon.com. Other third-party sellers there are not authorized under Dyson's warranty terms, which does not by itself mean an item is fake. Check who the seller is before you buy.
How can I tell if a Dyson website is fake?
Check that the address is Dyson.com, a local Dyson site or an authorized retailer, which Dyson calls a good starting point. Dyson says fake sites are often promoted through social media ads, copy its images and wording, offer discounts, and give no or incomplete contact details.
Is the Dyson Outlet a real Dyson store?
In the US, yes. A copy of dyson.com from October 2026 shows a Dyson Outlet that sells refurbished machines, which Dyson says were tested by the same engineers who work on new machines. Dyson's UK and Australian sites also sell refurbished machines. A different site that pairs words such as outlet or sale with the Dyson name is not Dyson's store, so check that the address is dyson.com or your country's own Dyson site.
Does a Dyson warranty work if I buy it abroad?
Often not in full. Dyson's terms in the US, the UK, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore and mainland China are tied to where the machine was bought or used. In the US, a universal-voltage machine bought from Dyson or a US authorized seller stays covered for non-commercial use abroad with a suitable adapter, but service may be available only in the US.
Is a parallel-import or international-version Dyson fake?
Not necessarily. UK guidance says genuine goods first sold in the EEA by, or with the consent of, the rights holder can usually be imported into the UK. But a Shanghai court found in 2020 that fakes were sold as European, American and Australian versions, so check the item itself.
Can I transfer a Dyson warranty when I buy second-hand?
In the UK, yes, with the original proof of purchase from a recognized retailer and evidence of the change of owner showing the machine worked at handover. In the US, no: the warranty covers only the original end-user purchaser.
Is a refurbished Dyson in a plain box fake?
Not necessarily. Dyson Australia and Dyson UK say their refurbished machines ship in a brand-new recyclable box, not always the original packaging.
Which online stores are authorized to sell Dyson in China?
Dyson China's October 2026 list names Dyson.cn, its WeChat mini program and WeChat Shop, and named stores on Tmall, JD, Douyin and Xiaohongshu, plus refurbished stores on Taobao and JD. The list changes, so check the live policy page.
