Second-hand Pandora
Second-Hand Pandora: How to Check a Listing Before You Pay
Second-hand Pandora can be real. Pandora says private resale items have no warranty and authorizes no retailer on internet auction sites. 8 checks to run.

Quick answer
Second-hand Pandora can be genuine, but Pandora does not vouch for it. It accepts private sales from people's own collections, but says those items have no warranty. It authorizes no retailer on internet auction sites, and says buying there is at your own risk. Before you pay, ask where it was bought, ask for new photos of the marks and clasp, and keep your buyer protection.
Buying second-hand does not make a piece fake. It does mean Pandora will not guarantee it. This guide is for the moment before you pay, or just after, when you deal with a person or a marketplace listing. It gives 8 checks for the seller and the listing, and says what each answer is worth. To judge a piece in your hand, use our real vs fake guide. To judge an online shop, use our guide to fake Pandora websites.
What Pandora says about resale and auction sites
Pandora says it does not authorize any retailer to sell on internet auction sites. Its section heading names eBay and no other platform. Pandora accepts that private people can sell items from their own collections. It says those items have no warranty, and that buying from internet auction sites is at the buyer's own risk.
Pandora also says it does not authenticate jewelry bought from unauthorized or online retailers. It reported removing more than 93,000 counterfeit pieces from auction sites in 2014, the latest count we found. We did not find its position on other marketplaces or resale apps.
So second-hand is not automatically fake, but Pandora does not vouch for it. The checks below reduce the risk. They cannot remove it.
1. Is this a private collection or a stock of new pieces?
The case Pandora accepts is a private person selling from their own collection. Many identical new pieces do not fit that description, so ask about them.
A UK case shows the risk. Cheshire Live reported on 25 April 2017 that a seller of fake Pandora on an online auction site was found guilty at Chester Crown Court. The charges were fraudulent trading and two trademark offenses, and the sentence was 16 months in prison. The report says 15,494 items were sold for more than GBP 300,000. Officers seized 1,285 fakes and GBP 3,205.
- Look at the seller's other listings, and count how many of the same piece they offer.
- Ask how they came to own so many, if the number seems high.
2. Ask where and when it was bought
Ask the questions in the table. A good answer supports the story. It does not prove the piece is genuine.
On 2 November 2026, Pandora's store locator did not list Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, South Korea, Russia or mainland China. So in those countries, a shop missing from the locator proves nothing.
| Ask the seller | A helpful answer | What it is worth |
|---|---|---|
| Where did you buy it? | A shop you can find yourself in Pandora's store locator, if it covers your country. | Supporting only |
| Do you have the receipt? | A receipt or statement. In copies saved in 2025, the Pandora Singapore and Pandora Ireland warranty pages treated proof of purchase as the warranty, and Ireland accepted a card or bank statement, so an owner may have kept one. | Supporting, because a receipt may belong to another item |
| When did you buy it? | A date that fits the marks. For example, Pandora says quality marks show numbers only on jewelry made before June 2011. | Supporting. Our stamp guide explains the marks. |
| The seller will not answer | None | A reason not to buy, but not proof of a fake |
3. Ask for new photos of marks, holes and clasps
Pandora warns that fake sites may copy official images, and a listing could do the same. So ask for new photos of this exact piece, taken for you. Ask for a small note with today's date beside the piece, which is hard to fake with borrowed photos.
Our real vs fake guide has a numbered map of where to look and what each detail means. Good photos still do not prove that the item delivered is the item shown.
- The whole piece.
- Every mark, straight on and in focus.
- The inside of each charm hole.
- The clasp, and any stones.
4. Read the listing's words: inspired by, Pandora-type, compatible
Gift & Wrap is a UK retailer that says it is on Pandora's list of online retailers. On 14 December 2015, it reported that listings use wording such as inspired by or Pandora-type. Treat a charm sold that way, or sold as compatible, as a different product. It is not a Pandora piece, so do not pay a Pandora price for it. If a charm sold this way still carries ALE or the Pandora name, treat that as a warning sign, because the listing itself says it is not Pandora.
Such charms can also affect the warranty on a real bracelet. Pandora Ireland's warranty page, in a copy saved on 9 September 2025, said counterfeit charms or charms from other brands could damage the threading and would void the warranty there. Pandora Singapore's warranty, in a copy saved on 30 November 2025, excluded the use of charms not made by Pandora. Terms may differ elsewhere.
We make no statement on whether these listings are legal. Ask the marketplace or a legal professional.
5. Look for the design in Pandora's catalog, and what a retired charm means
Sources conflict on retired charms. Grace & Co, a UK retailer that describes itself as a Pandora stockist, says discontinued charms will not appear in the catalog. ENNXO, a Thai resale marketplace, says they stay in the catalog. We found no official retired-items list or code explainer. So a missing listing is a reason to look closer, not proof.
Pandora says copies can carry similar marks, so compare the design as well as the stamp. One buyer on the Japanese forum Yahoo! Chiebukuro wrote in June 2024 about a charm whose stamps looked nearly the same as those on the official page. A detail on the design was missing, and that settled it as fake for that buyer. This is one forum anecdote, not a rule.
- If the design is listed, compare it with the seller's new photos, detail by detail.
6. Treat a low price as a warning
Azuline, a French jeweler that describes itself as an authorized dealer, says abnormally low prices on marketplaces or unknown sites generally point to counterfeits. Use that as a warning only. Official outlets and promotions exist, and a private seller may also price low to sell quickly. Our guide to fake Pandora websites covers official discounts.
7. Do not pay extra for a box as proof
A box, pouch or card can be separated from the jewelry, so it proves nothing about the piece. A box only shows that the seller has a box. Our real vs fake guide explains why this is weak evidence.
8. Pay in a way that keeps your protection
Stay inside the marketplace's checkout and buyer protection, and note the time limit for a claim. Do not agree to pay outside the platform, for example by bank transfer or by a payment marked as a gift to friends or family, even if the seller offers a lower price for it. Those payments can leave you with no protection. Rules differ by platform and by country, and this is not legal advice.
Does second-hand Pandora have a warranty?
Pandora says items that private people sell from their own collections have no warranty. So do not pay more because a seller promises one.
For context only, here is what the two warranty pages we read say. Terms may differ elsewhere, and we found no global period.
- Pandora Singapore, in a copy saved on 30 November 2025, replaces jewelry its jewelers prove defective from manufacturing within 12 months of purchase. The original proof of purchase is the warranty.
- Pandora Ireland, in a copy saved on 9 September 2025, replaces manufacturing faults free of charge. It covers silver and gold for up to 2 years from purchase, and parts of wood, leather, glass and string for one year. If jewelry broke outside the warranty, or there is no receipt, it asks the owner to take it to a local Pandora store for assessment.
When it arrives, or if it turns out fake
Photograph it when it arrives, and compare it with the listing. Run the checks in our real vs fake guide inside the return window. If you are still unsure, use a Vereev review.
If it looks fake, use the marketplace's return route and buyer protection. Then report the seller in English to Pandora's Brand Protection team, through its page called Reporting brand and product violations on pandoragroup.com. Keep the listing, your messages and your payment record.
We could not confirm that Pandora stores check pieces as a policy, so do not plan on a store check.
What no listing can prove
Photos and answers cannot show the metal, and they cannot guarantee that the item shipped is the item shown. A photo review cannot test metal purity. To check the metal, ask a jeweler or an assay office. Pandora vouches only for purchases from authorized retailers. A Vereev result is an independent opinion, and it does not restore a warranty.
Common questions
What readers ask about this topic
Is second-hand Pandora real?
It can be. Pandora accepts that private people sell from their own collections, but it says those items have no warranty, and it can only guarantee the authenticity of products bought through authorized retailers. Check the seller, the listing and the piece before you pay.
Does Pandora authorize sellers on auction sites?
No. Pandora says it does not authorize any retailer to sell on internet auction sites, and that buying there is at the buyer's own risk. We did not find its position on other marketplaces.
Do I get a warranty if I buy Pandora second-hand?
Pandora says items that private people sell from their own collections have no warranty, so do not pay more because a seller promises one. Warranty terms also differ by market.
What does inspired by Pandora mean in a listing?
Treat it as a different product, not a Pandora piece. Gift & Wrap, a UK retailer, described this wording in 2015. Do not pay a Pandora price for it.
Pandora retired charm: is it real if it is not on the website?
It could be. Grace & Co says discontinued charms will not appear, ENNXO says they stay in the catalog, and we found no official retired-items list. A missing listing is a reason to look closer, not proof.
What photos should I ask a seller for?
Ask for new photos of this exact piece: the whole piece, every mark, the inside of each charm hole, the clasp and any stones. Good photos still do not prove that the item delivered is the item shown.
The seller has the box and receipt. Is that enough?
No. A box or pouch can be separated from the jewelry, and a receipt may belong to another item. They support the story, and you still need to check the piece.
What if it turns out to be fake after I pay?
Use the marketplace's return route and buyer protection within its time limit, and keep the listing, messages and payment record. Then report the seller in English to Pandora's Brand Protection team. Rules differ by platform and by country.
