Pandora Stamps: What ALE, S925, G585 and G750 Mean
ALE is Pandora's maker's mark, S925 means 92.5% silver, G585 is 14k and G750 is 18k. Older and plated pieces, and why a stamp alone is not proof.

Quick answer
ALE is Pandora's standard maker's mark and stands for Algot Enevoldsen, father of Pandora co-founder Per Enevoldsen. S925 means sterling silver, 92.5% pure. G585 means 14k gold and G750 means 18k gold. Quality marks on pieces made before June 2011 show numbers only. Some of the smallest pieces have no ALE. Pandora says its marks alone do not guarantee a piece is genuine.
Pandora confirms a short list of marks: ALE, S925, G585, G750, numbers-only quality marks on older pieces, and extra stamps in some countries. Everything else you see on a listing or a forum is a report, not a rule. This guide keeps the two apart. It tells you what each mark means, what is still unknown, and why a correct mark is only a first check. For the other checks on a piece, use our real vs fake guide. For what each line is made of, use our guide to Pandora silver.
What each Pandora stamp means
These are the marks Pandora confirms on its identification page. The Singapore copy of that page, saved on 20 December 2025, repeats them. The diagram shows the marks only, not where they sit, because Pandora does not say.
| Mark | What it means | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| ALE | Maker's mark, for Algot Enevoldsen | Pandora jewelry, except some of the smallest pieces |
| S925 | Capital S plus silver in parts per thousand: 92.5% pure | Sterling silver jewelry |
| G585 | Capital G plus gold in parts per thousand: 58.5% | 14k gold jewelry |
| G750 | Capital G plus gold in parts per thousand: 75% | 18k gold jewelry |
| Numbers only | A quality mark with no letters | Jewelry made before June 2011 |

What does ALE mean on Pandora?
ALE stands for Algot Enevoldsen. He was the father of Per Enevoldsen, who founded Pandora with his wife, Winnie Liljeborg. So ALE is not a founder's name, although Popbela, an Indonesian site, calls Algot Enevoldsen the founder. Pandora calls ALE its standard maker's mark.
Pandora says ALE appears on its jewelry except on some of its smallest pieces. It does not say which pieces, or where on a piece the stamp sits. So look for ALE, but do not treat its absence on a very small piece as proof of a fake.
S925, G585 and G750: how to read the numbers
The letter shows the metal and the number shows parts per thousand. S925 is sterling silver, at 925 parts per thousand, or 92.5%. G585 is 14k gold, 58.5%. G750 is 18k gold, 75%.
G585 and G750 are the only gold marks Pandora lists. GoodStone, a US jeweler, lists 9k, 10k and 24k gold marks in its guide to Pandora. Pandora does not list those, so do not assume they exist on its jewelry.
Pandora says it applies these quality marks itself to show metal purity. So they are the brand's own stamps, not the result of an outside test.
The numbers are also not unique to Pandora. Under the International Hallmarking Convention, five finenesses are legal in every member state: platinum 950, gold 750, gold 585, silver 925 and silver 800. Pandora's marks use three of those numbers. So a number can state a purity, but it cannot tell you who made the piece.
Why older Pandora shows numbers only
Pandora says quality marks on jewelry made before June 2011 contain only numbers, with no letters. So an older silver piece that reads 925 instead of S925 fits that rule.
The rule covers the quality mark only. It says nothing about ALE being absent, so do not read it as saying that pieces made before June 2011 have no ALE. Two 1stDibs seller listings show 14k charms stamped 585 and ALE, which fits the rule, although the listings give no manufacture dates.
- If a seller says a piece is recent but its mark shows numbers only, ask about it. That does not clearly fit Pandora's rule, although it does not prove a fake.
- If you know when the piece was bought, note the date with your photos.
My piece has no ALE or no S925. Is it fake?
Not by itself. Pandora says some of its smallest pieces do not carry ALE, but it does not say which ones. That also corrects an answer on a Japanese Q&A site which says charms have no stamp at all.
A missing S925 is not enough either. Pandora says its EVERSHINE metal-alloy core was introduced in 2015 and has been used in its gold-plated products, and it plans more alloy-core pieces. Pandora Singapore's plating guide, saved on 24 September 2020, says a piece's hallmark always shows what its metal core is made of. That is the only official line we found on stamps for plated pieces. So a gold-colored piece stamped S925 can fit this rule. Pandora Shine, for example, launched in 2018 with a sterling silver core under its gold plate. We found no Pandora list of the stamps on alloy-core, Rose, Shine or platinum-plated pieces.
So a missing mark is a reason to look closer, not a verdict. Our guide to Pandora silver explains the plated lines.
- Photograph the clasp, the inside of any band and the core of a charm, because a mark may be small.
- Note the size of the piece. Pandora's ALE exception covers only some of its smallest pieces, so a missing ALE on a larger piece deserves more attention.
ALE MET, ALE R and numbers after ALE
We found no official explanation for any of these marks, so we give no meaning for them. The table shows who reports each one, so you can judge how much it is worth.
| Mark seen | Who reports it | What can be said |
|---|---|---|
| ALE MET | ENNXO, a Thai resale marketplace, says rose gold pieces are stamped ALE MET. A 1stDibs seller lists a 14k rose gold-plated ring stamped ALE, MET and 54. | No official explanation. No source links it to the UK +METAL mark. |
| ALE R | fb.ru, a Russian general site, gives ale r for rose gold. The same page also says Pandora never uses plating, which Pandora's own pages contradict. | Unconfirmed. |
| Number after ALE | The same 1stDibs ring is stamped 54 and listed as size 6.75. | It may be a ring size. Pandora does not explain it. |
| PANDORA name | Apartstyle and a Japanese retailer say genuine pieces can carry it. A 1stDibs answer says replicas often read PANDORA instead of ALE. | PANDORA alone is no test. A missing ALE on a piece that is not small deserves a closer look. |
| Series name on a charm | A Japanese online retailer's blog says charms often carry a series name. | One retailer's report. |
- If your piece shows one of these marks, photograph it with the rest of the piece. The mark alone will not settle anything.
- A crown over the O of PANDORA: the crowned O is a Pandora logo and trademark, not one of the key markings Pandora lists. So it proves nothing on its own.
Where are the stamps on a Pandora piece?
Pandora does not say where its marks sit. We also found no official photos of genuine stamps. So we found no official rule for their size, depth or font, and you should be careful with any guide that gives one.
GoodStone, a US jeweler that sells its own fine jewelry, says marks are small and tucked away, such as on a clasp or inside a ring band. That is one retailer's description, not a Pandora rule.
- Photograph every mark you find, straight on.
- Use soft light, so polished metal does not hide the mark.
- Step back and crop, because a phone held too close cannot focus.
Is S925 ALE a hallmark? UK, US and Denmark
Not in the UK legal sense. Pandora maps its terms by country. Its maker's mark (US) equals a sponsor's mark (UK) and a responsibility mark (Denmark). Its quality mark (US) equals a hallmark (UK) and a fineness mark (Denmark). That map is about vocabulary. The legal rules differ by country, as the list below shows. This is general information, not legal advice.
- UK: a hallmark has three compulsory marks: a sponsor's mark, a fineness mark and an assay office mark. Only an official assay office can apply a UK hallmark. So a factory S925 and ALE is the maker's stamp, not a UK hallmark by itself.
- UK: hallmarking is required only from set weights: silver 7.78 g, gold and palladium 1 g, platinum 0.5 g. Each earring counts as one article. So a light charm can be sold without an assay office mark, and its absence is no warning sign.
- UK: above those weights, Assay Office London says it is illegal to sell or describe un-hallmarked articles in trade. So a heavier silver or gold piece sold by a UK business should normally carry an assay office hallmark. We could not confirm how these marks appear on Pandora pieces.
- US: the law is 15 U.S.C. 297. A maker or dealer who puts a gold or silver quality mark on a finished piece sold or shipped in the US must also add its name, or a trademark it has registered or applied for in the US, close to that mark. The same law bars marking plated pieces of a cheaper metal as sterling.
- Denmark and other Convention members: the International Hallmarking Convention's Common Control Mark is voluntary, and the Convention does not require compulsory hallmarking. Each member still sets its own rules. We did not find Denmark's own rules for marks like Pandora's. When we read the Convention's list on 2 November 2026, Denmark and the UK were members, and the US, Thailand and Vietnam were not on it.
- Other countries: Pandora says some countries require other stamps and that it adds them there. It names neither the stamps nor the countries.
- This guide does not say whether any piece meets these rules. For a legal answer, ask an assay office or a legal professional.
Does a correct stamp prove a Pandora is real?
No. Pandora says the presence of its markings "does not guarantee authenticity". It calls checking them one of the first steps, and it says copies can carry similar identifiers.
Some guides say otherwise. Azuline, a French jeweler, calls ALE among the most reliable signs, and GoodStone says marks prove authenticity. Pandora's own page says the opposite, so follow Pandora on this.
Tests cannot settle it either. A photo review cannot test metal purity. A metal test shows the metal, not the maker. So a piece can be real silver with a correct-looking stamp and still not be Pandora.
If the marks do not fit
Photograph every mark sharply, and ask the seller where the piece was bought. For metal content, go to a jeweler or an assay office. For the whole piece, use a Vereev review. A reviewer may ask for more photos, and the result is independent of Pandora.
If the piece looks fake, use the seller's or marketplace's return route. Then report the seller in English to Pandora's Brand Protection team, through its page called Reporting brand and product violations on pandoragroup.com. Send the link, photos, and your receipt or the ad. The last section of our real vs fake guide lists the evidence to keep.
Common questions
What readers ask about this topic
What does the ALE stamp stand for?
ALE is Pandora's standard maker's mark. It stands for Algot Enevoldsen, the father of Pandora co-founder Per Enevoldsen. Pandora says it appears on its jewelry except on some of its smallest pieces.
What does S925 ALE mean?
S925 means sterling silver, 92.5% pure, and ALE is Pandora's maker's mark. Together they are a first check, because Pandora says copies can carry similar identifiers.
What do G585 and G750 mean on Pandora?
G585 means 14k gold, 58.5% pure. G750 means 18k gold, 75% pure. They are the only gold marks Pandora lists.
My charm has no ALE stamp. Is it fake?
Not by itself. Pandora says some of its smallest pieces do not carry ALE, but it does not say which ones. Check the rest of the piece, and look closer if the charm is not small.
My older Pandora says 925, not S925. Is that normal?
It fits Pandora's rule if the piece was made before June 2011. Pandora says quality marks on jewelry made before then contain only numbers, with no letters. That does not prove the piece is genuine.
What does ALE MET 52 mean on Pandora?
No official source explains it. ENNXO, a Thai resale marketplace, says rose gold pieces are stamped ALE MET, but Pandora does not confirm this. The number, such as 52, may be a ring size: a 1stDibs listing shows a ring stamped ALE, MET and 54 and listed as size 6.75.
Why does my charm say ALE R?
We could not confirm what it means, so photograph the mark and check the rest of the piece. The only source we read for it is fb.ru, a Russian general site, which gives ale r for rose gold. The same page also says Pandora never uses plating, which Pandora's own pages contradict.
Is S925 ALE a UK hallmark?
No. UK hallmarks must be applied by an official assay office, so a factory S925 and ALE is the maker's stamp. A piece below the set weights, such as 7.78 g for silver, does not need a hallmark in the UK.
