How to Photograph Cosmetics for Authentication

Photograph the whole product so its shape, color, logo placement and condition show. Then take the front label in sharp focus, with the typography, logo, shade name, size and printed details readable, and add the box, barcode, batch code, ingredients label, seal or receipt if you have them. The Vereev app shows a sample photo for each of these 3 angles.

Tips for cosmetics

  • Find the batch code, which is often printed or embossed on the base or on the box, and photograph it in sharp focus.
  • Keep seals and wrapping in the photos if the product is unopened.
  • Use soft light, so glossy jars and boxes do not reflect the camera.

Take these photos in the Vereev app

FAQ

How many photos do I need to authenticate cosmetics?

The Vereev app's cosmetics guide lists 3 angles: the main product, its front label, and the packaging with any batch code or barcode when available.

Does this guide work for fragrance and skincare?

Yes. The app uses it for makeup, skincare, fragrance, packaging, batch codes and product labels.

Is a batch code proof that a product is genuine?

No. Batch codes and barcodes can be copied, so a reviewer compares them with the product, the label and the packaging rather than treating them as proof.
